Instructor Spotlight: Annie Harney

If you’ve taken Thursday 6:30PM Row in Arlington, you already know Annie brings the perfect mix of energy, creativity, and intention to the room. Annie teaches at Sweat Fixx Arlington, where she leads Row with a coaching style that pushes you past what you think your limits are — while making you feel fully supported every step of the way. Her playlists set the tone, her circuits keep you guessing, and her presence builds confidence in every client who walks through the door.

Annie has been part of the Sweat Fixx team for about a year and a half, returning to group fitness after time spent focused on her career in education. While she came back into fitness through yoga, she missed the intensity and drive of high-energy formats — which is exactly why Row became such a natural fit.

Whether she’s programming creative circuits, hyping you up with the perfect warm-up song, or reminding you that progress always beats perfection, Annie brings both heart and hustle to every class.

How long have you been at Sweat Fixx and what caused you to want to join the team?
I’ve been teaching at Sweat Fixx for about a year and a half. I’d taught fitness after college and through grad school but took a break after jumping into my career in education. In the spring of 2024, I came back into it teaching yoga but still missed teaching the more high intensity formats. I loved how Sweat Fixx pushes you to exceed your own expectations while setting goals and crushing them with a supportive community cheering you on.

What your favorite class is to teach/take and why?
I love teaching Row because of the wide variety of format options for each circuit. It helps me stay creative and keeps clients on their toes. I also love finding a new warm-up song and opening up the class working with the clients to the music.

What’s one piece of advice you would give someone new who is trying out SF for the first time?
Progress over perfection! Everyone’s starting point is unique and this community is here to support you along your personal journey with fitness.

What’s one song that instantly gets you hyped during a workout?
Two Friends Big Bootie Mixes always get me hyped up and in the zone during a workout! If I’m teaching yoga, I’ve been known to have at least one Celine Dion song somewhere in most flows!

Which Sweat Fixx class challenges you the most personally—and why?
There is something about taking a Grit class that gets me “out of my head” and keeps me in the moment. The variety of stations and moving through them makes the class fly by while getting me “in the zone.” Something about knowing I am only doing this exercise during this one station gets me to push harder than I thought I could have and truly give it my all.

If Sweat Fixx had superlatives, what would you win (most likely to…)?
Most likely to be mistaken for trying to break into the studio because I’m checking the door is locked for the 18th time!

What’s one fitness trend you hope never comes back?
All cardio, no weights/strength training. Strength training is so important for our health, especially as we age.

What’s one fitness trend you secretly love?
I’m obsessed with my Oura ring. It has helped me reprioritize my sleep and work on stress management. It also helps me notice different trends in my body’s response to adopting new habits.
