OCTOBER MEMBER OF THE MONTH: LEAH & JOHN MCCARTHY

Everyone loves unsung heros.

The people who quietly rock class, always bring the fire, and inspire us to be a little bit better each and every time we take the mic. October’s member of the month went to a dedicated duo who exemplifies those characteristics in spades. John and Leah McCarthy can be seen crushing the evening classes at least 3 times a week, bringing their positivity, passion, and humor each and every time they get on the rower. Whether they are pushing for a PR, trying one of the crazy moves we came up with, or lifting heavier than ever before, John and Leah ALWAYS bring their A-game.

Way to go Leah and John. We are so happy to have you in our #fixxfam and are proud of all of the hard work you put into each and every class!

How did you first hear about Sweat Fixx?
Leah : A friend of mine called over the summer and told me about Sweat Fixx.  I had just finished reading The Boys in the Boat by Daniel James Brown – a true story about the 1936 American mens rowing victory in Nazi Germany and was inspired!   I started in September with Amanda’s Row Flow class on Wednesday night and fell in love with the place.  After a few classes, I convinced my husband (John) to join me!
What keeps you both coming back?
John: The whole-body work-out each and every class keeps us coming back.  The feeling of accomplishment after each class is amazing.  Also – the staff and the other clients are the best — everyone is so positive and encouraging.
What’s one thing that you look forward to every time you come to Sweat Fixx?

L & J:  We looking forward to surviving the class!  No joke!!!

What motivates you two to be stronger?
L & J: Our age is motivating us to be stronger — our kids are in college, so we have the time to focus on ourselves and our health and fitness.

When you aren’t crushing it on the rower or mat, where can we find you?

L: We both work full-time.  I work at Vertex Pharmaceuticals in Boston, and John owns his own business  in Wakefield.  When we aren’t working (or rowing) we can be found near the ocean (Rockport or the Caribbean) or playing with our dog, Skippy.
What’s your guilty pleasure?
L:  I love anything salty while John has a sweet tooth (especially cupcakes).

What are you most proud of accomplishing since you first came to Sweat Fixx?

J: We are proud of each other after each class we finish.
L: I am particularly proud that we working out together — so much more fun than sitting on the couch!
One tip that you would give to someone who is coming to Sweat Fixx for the first time?
L & J: Go at your own pace but, challenge yourself.  Do this for yourself — take a variety of classes and have fun with it!
